voestalpine connects
Three steel arches on either side of the bridge will decisively shape the urban landscape, and the steel will be supplied by voestalpine.
Wider, safer, higher strength
Roughly 8000 tons of highest-quality steel in thicknesses ranging from 6 to 80 mm will be supplied by voestalpine Grobblech to MCE GmbH, which is the company responsible for engineering and construction of the bridge. Material supply will begin in September of 2018. From this point in time forward, approximately 1000 tons of high-strength, thermomechanically rolled structural steel, primarily of the steel grade S460M/ML, will be delivered each month. The very clean steel with low carbon, phosphorus and sulfur content and excellent welding properties is perfectly suited to the high structural demands of the modern bridge over the Danube in Linz.
The main construction activities began with a ground-breaking ceremony at the beginning of July. The new Danube bridge is approximately 400 meters long and up to 33.7 meters wide. Two car lanes, a second track for the rail line between the Mühlkreis Station and Bulgariplatz as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths will take the pressure off the traffic in the inner city.
