greentec steel goes around the world
First greentec steel coils delivered by voestalpine
Highest voestalpine quality and a reduced carbon footprint are the most essential features of greentec steel edition products. Some of the first greentec steel coils to be supplied by the Linz works have now reached Danish steel wholesaler Lemvigh-Müller.
Each year, Lemvigh-Müller procures roughly 10,000 tons of hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel strip, colofer® and high-strength steel grades from the Steel Division. And now the company has purchased greentec steel edition products. The colofer® coils of the greentec steel edition are used, for example, to make VESTFROST wine coolers.
"We at Vestfrost Solutions have a clear orientation toward sustainability and have the goal of becoming net carbon neutral by 2030 at the latest. We are committed to reducing the carbon emissions of our products throughout their entire lifecycle by 15% within the same timeframe. A key factor in this strategy has been purchasing greener materials, such as greentec steel products from voestalpine that are supplied in cooperation with Lemvigh-Müller A/S. Together we are working toward a greener future." (Poul Erik Henningsen, strategic buyer at Vestfrost Solutions)Everyone wants CO2-reduced steel
The greentec steel edition products are impressive with their proven voestalpine premium quality as well as their outstanding processing and material properties. Customers benefit from the fact that they can use these products to reduce the carbon footprint of their own products. Their customers also benefit from the fact that all of us are making an important contribution to a clean and livable future. Customer demand for high-quality and carbon-reduced steel products is growing rapidly. Several voestalpine customers, including OSO Hotwater and Brucha, decided to follow the example of voestalpine from the beginning, and the number of companions is continually growing. Our path to a sustainable future
With greentec steel, voestalpine is pursuing an ambitious step-by-step plan in the long-term decarbonization of steel production. In an initial step, the Steel Division now offers each flat steel product in a carbon-reduced version. From 2027 we plan to gradually switch from the coal-based blast furnace route to electric arc furnaces that run on green power. This will reduce CO2 emissions by around one-third from the year 2027. In the long term, for instance, our aim is to increase the use of green hydrogen in steelmaking and to achieve carbon-neutral production by the year 2050.
