Long night of research 2014 at voestalpine at the Linz site
The research department will sponsor an open house on 4 April 2014 from 5:00 to 11:00 p.m. Analytics and testing technologies are used to examine newly developed steels with respect to their subsequent processing suitability and application as a finished product. You will be able to have a closer look at two different stations.
Mechanical/Physical Testing Lab
This is where all products manufactured at the Linz site are examined with respect to their subsequent processing suitability and application as a finished product. Testing procedures range from chemical composition to determination of mechanical or physical properties such as strength and toughness/ductility. A large portion of the testing procedures is carried out automatically.
Metallurgical and Surface Analysis
The processing, procedural and functional properties of voestalpine products are determined by their microstructures and surface structures. Concrete examples will illustrate the microscopic and sub-microscopic substrate and surface properties. Visitors will be able to see the minutest details in light-microscopic and electron-microscopic images with near-atomic resolution.
