Light-weight containers
The very first full container train containing ore for the voestalpine production site arrived in Linz. As a symbolic gesture, the RockTainer ORE train has now traveled to Vienna on a visit to the Ministry of Transportation. The national prize for mobility was awarded there for the eighth time. The award represents the highest honor bestowed by the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Innovation and Technology. Dozens of wonderful developments are submitted each year in four categories.
The RockTainer ORE was among this year's entries. The light-weight containers for railcars were produced using the alform® welding system of voestalpine. This reduced the dead weight of the total load, thus making it possible to transport more material than on conventional containers. The containers are also safer and simpler to use.
This year there were roughly 90 entries. At the end of June, twelve of the best were introduced to the public. The winners in each category received the national prize. The second-place and third-place winners in each category were awarded a certificate from Federal Minister Alois Stöger.
The RockTainer ORE container was among the winners in the category of Securing Employment and Strengthening the Economy. "It is our desire to support innovative mobility. This is emphasized by our current motto, which is entitled Networked and Service Oriented," explains Minister Stöger. Of course this motto was exactly the intention of the RockTainer ORE container, a product at the cutting edge of light-weight steel innovations.
"voestalpine, Innofreight and Rail Cargo Austria have created an innovative package that stands for the future of revolutionary logistics," says Wolf-Dieter Hohl, Director of Marketing at voestalpine Stahl GmbH, very proudly of the highly productive innovation, the RockTainer ORE container.
