The benchmark for high-strength steels with exceptional crash properties
High-strength ahss high-ductility steels for cold forming are a further development of classic ahss-steels (advanced high-strength steels) made by voestalpine. A previously unmatched balance of properties:
High strength
Best formability
Good weldability
Excellent crash behavior
The alternative to press-hardened steels
voestalpine is a pioneer in ultra-strength, cold-formable steels. Our ahss steels have been in industrial use since the 1990s in lightweight automotive design. This competitive edge in expertise has come to bear in the development of ahss high-ductility steels and follows the trend in the automotive industry toward the production of safety-related structural components using efficient cold-forming technology.
Unique bending properties, excellent deep-drawing properties
Our portfolio offers the optimum ahss high-ductility steel for qualified crash-relevant applications, e.g. passenger compartment components, seat rails or sections. The high-quality voestalpine zinc coating (hot-dip galvanized and electrogalvanized) ensures reliable corrosion resistance.
A long story of success
The excellent properties of voestalpine steels ahss high-ductility are achieved by modified microstructure design. One factor is the increased bainite content as part of the matrix structure and also the partial use of tempered martensite. The precipitation of iron carbides is suppressed by the alloy design and complex temperature control. This occurs during bainite formation as well as during tempering of the martensite.
