Pipe mills produce pipes for a very wide scope of applications: for general construction/piling, and for pipelines for the oil & gas, hydrogen and water industries. The SAW process is often used for large diameter pipes in a two-run technique (DSAW), with two different welding techniques: spiral or longitudinal welds.
The two-run technique is a relative complicated welding process due to the high dilution rate and high heat input. In addition to the two-run technique, the multi-run technique can also be used with which the heat input can be reduced and the proportion of refined weld metal is increased in order to achieve certain mechanical properties.
