Process reliability and high productivity with environment-friendly products for the Yellow Goods Industry

3 June 2024 |

In the Yellow Goods industry, particularly for earth-moving and mining equipment, achieving high productivity and process reliability is crucial. Our solutions - ECOspark®, QuickPulse, greenWave, and advanced drum and wire feeding systems - are designed to meet these demands while also being environmentally friendly.

We met our Global Key Account Manager Patrick Hendrickx to understand: What is important in the Yellow Goods Industry when it comes to the welding process itself? And what are the customers expecting?

Over the past few years in the yellow goods industry, I have found that the sector faces unique challenges:

  • Large parts with thick walls: Most components have wall thicknesses up to 30mm or more and require extensive welding.
  • Long arc times: Welding these parts can take up to 4 hours or more, making arc time critical.
  • High reliability: Stability and reliability of the welding process are of utmost importance, even if there are variable air gaps that can never be excluded.
  • Robotic welding: Used primarily to optimize positioning and achieve high deposition rates in a single pass.
  • Stringent weld requirements: High mechanical properties, correct penetration, absence of undercut, and reduced silicate islands to minimize cleaning.
  • Aesthetic and quality finish: This is especially important for visible welds that will be painted.

Our Solution - ECOspark® with QuickPulse

The possibility of large drum systems for ECOspark® in combination with our QuickPulse welding process fulfills all requirements for the Yellow Goods industry and results in the following advantages:

  • Maximum productivity
  • High reliability of the welding process even with variable air gap
  • Minimum installation and downtime
  • High quality welds
  • Minimum post and interpass cleaning operations

ECOspark® 420 and ECOspark® 460

The ECOspark® portfolio are latest state of development for copper-free solid wires for manual or robotized joint welding of unalloyed and low-alloyed steels.

Product properties

User benefits

Non-copper plated wire surface
  • No clogging of liners due to copper abrasion
  • Less system of downtime for cleaning wire guides
Safe arc ignition
  • No initial spatter
  • High reliability for short seams and tack welds
Stable arc with large parameter box
  • Easy and quick parameter finding
  • Low spatters
  • Less finishing

Consistent wire feeding properties

  • Trouble free welding
  • Enables productive welding at high currents

Very low formation of silica islands

  • Less finishing such as grinding
  • Improved coating adhesion

Drums and Wire Feeding Systems for distances up to 50 meters

Our drums and wire feeding systems support the demands of the Yellow Goods Industry. Long feeding distances, large volume production and a stable welding process are requirements that need to be met.

  • Hassel free smooth feeding
  • Minimum time loss for exchanging empty against full drum.
  • Longer lifetime of wear parts (liners) hence less downtime.
  • Allows to position the drums in a convenient and safe environment instead of close to the wire feeder/torch.

We want to highlight also our QuickPulse process with extremely stable and concentrated arc, simple parameter control, arc noise reduction, and increased penetration depth by up to 40 % with less risk of undercuts.

Reduction of the heat-affected zone

Less heat input means lower loads and less deformation, helping to preserve the original mechanical and metallurgical properties.

Higher welding speed

Accelerate your pulsed MIG/MAG process! Thanks to a concentrated arc, the welding speed is up to 50% higherthan a standard pulsed MIG/MAG process.

Advancements and Health & Safety Initiatives

Patrick what are further benefits we can offer for the Yellow Goods sector?

Our Uranos NX series incorporates the greenWave® which enables an extremely energy efficient welding operation, in addition to our robotic solutions with robotic wire feeders, liners, interfaces and torches we are equipped to answer our customers' demands to reach The Perfect Weld Seam.

Patrick Hendrickx, Global Key Account Manager

Patrick are health and safety requirements and sustainability topics for your customers in the Yellow Goods sector?

Definitely: I would say there is an increasing awareness of health and safety requirements of welders and people in the workshop. It is very positively received that we take strong initiatives in this respect and ECOspark® along with our ecological packaging and greenWave technology of our Uranos NX machines is the right choice.
