„High Five“ for voestalpine Shenyang

Already five hot forming lines at voestalpine Automotive Components Shenyang

With the fifth phs-hot forming line, the specialist for press-hardened automotive components is further increasing its capacities. At the same time, the company is taking a further step towards CO2UNTDOWN TO ZERO - the mission of voestalpine's Metal Forming Division. So, "High Five" for Shenyang.

Competence for high-strength crash-relevant components: voestalpine Automotive Components Shenyang

Success in a growing market
The plant's high-strength vehicle components are in demand on both the European and Chinese markets. Production for domestic and foreign vehicle brands in China is booming and the market is growing. voestalpine Automotive Components Shenyang is keeping pace with the dynamics and speed of the market. Less than a year passed between planning and the start of production of the fifth phs line.

Masterful planning
One challenge for the construction of the plant was the limited space available. The planners managed to integrate the entire system, including the heating units, press and logistics, in such a way that optimal processes are guaranteed.

The limited space available as a challenge for the integration of the 5th phs system.

CO2-footprint further reduced
Further CO2 reduction is also being driven forward. Heating for hot forming is carried out using electric furnaces. 3 of the 5 phs plants are already electrically heated. This not only complies with strict government regulations, but also reduces the CO2 footprint of the products, which are manufactured in three-shift operation.

The entire voestalpine Metal Forming Division, which also includes the companies in the Automotive Components Business Unit, aims to achieve CO2 -neutral production by 2035. The CO2UNTDOWN TO ZERO is underway and will be successful. Because the division can count on every company at every location in the world.

Leading in phs-hot forming
The site in Shenyang, which opened in 2015, produces stamped and formed parts as well as ready-to-install assemblies. The plant specializes in the hot forming of crash-relevant parts using the innovative phs-ultraform®-process. The indirect hot forming process developed by voestalpine from galvanized steels to press-hardened, high-strength, corrosion-resistant components sets standards in terms of component design freedom, dimensional accuracy and process reliability.
