Uwe Tertinek has been with voestalpine Wire Rod Austria GmbH at the St. Peter Freienstein site since January 2012, and has been employed as an application engineer since 2018. He spoke to us about the basis for good cooperation and enjoyment of work.

How did you come to voestalpine?

“During my studies at the Montan University in Leoben, I worked several times in the summer months as a working student at voestalpine and also wrote my thesis in cooperation with the R&D department of voestalpine Stahl Donawitz. After completing my studies, I started working in the R&D department in the wire rod rolling mill in St. Peter Freienstein, before I switched internally to the application engineering department at voestalpine Wire Rod Austria in 2018."

“Since I have always been interested in technology and scientific topics, the decision to study at the Montan University in Leoben was easy. The knowledge I acquired there enabled me to optimally start my professional life and my area of responsibility within the voestalpine Group.

As an application engineer, I am the first point of contact for our customers regarding all technical issues. This includes, among others, support in joint developments and assistance in various topics relating to our wire rod. I also check, for example, specifications and technical delivery conditions. "

What makes your work particularly enjoyable?

“What I particularly like about my work as an application engineer is the opportunity to actively support the further processing of our product at the customer's facility right through to the end product. Intercommunication is the basis for successful cooperation. As part of my business trips, I have already been able to visit a large number of production sites and make important contacts.

Above all, I appreciate the really good working atmosphere and the respectful way we treat each other. There is no "elbow mentality" and you work together as a team. "
