Now it's here—the new 2024 Environmental Report. What went well? And which measures were successfully implemented to make voestalpine a bit more sustainable?
The greentec steel climate protection program, with which voestalpine wants to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest, is being implemented on schedule. The first step of greentec steel comprises an investment volume of roughly 1.5 billion euros that will help fund two green-powered electric arc furnaces to be installed at the Linz and Donawitz sites. Two coal-based blast furnace units will be decommissioned.

- Environmentally-friendly transport is important to us! That's why our our credo has always been “more rail, less road.” 56.9 % of the products are delivered by rail. In the case of raw materials, the figure is nearly 70% by rail, 20% by ship and less than 0.1% by truck.
- voestalpine Steel Division has committed itself to the ResponsibleSteel standard and was certified as a sustainably producing steel site in the 2021/2022 business year. The first recertification audit was successfully completed in thespring of 2024.
- Less is more: power consumption in scrap cutting was reduced by as much as 208.6 MWh/a.
