LESS IS MORE
THE FUTURE OF voestalpine Stahl IS BECOMING MORE SUSTAINABLE
Climate change has become an increasingly pressing challenge, and we at voestalpine are all the more determined to sustainably reduce our carbon footprint even more in the production of our greentec steel. Our motto is "Less Is More," and we are once again taking a step further in the direction of environmentally compatible steel production in our carbon-optimized production route.
MANY PATHS LEAD TO THE FINAL GOAL
We are continuously working on technical improvements
voestalpine invests continuously in technological innovations to increase the efficiency of steel production while reducing carbon emissions.
Our learning curve is rapidly rising
Continual improvement and the pursuit of ever more environmentally compatible production methods are firmly anchored in the corporate culture of voestalpine. We learn from the past and use this knowledge to make the future of the steel industry more sustainable.
We have improved our production facilities
Carbon-optimized production has now been extended to each of our blast furnaces, which means that our greentec steel Edition products will be available with an even lower carbon footprint in the blast furnace route, effective 1 January 2024.
BEST METHOD OF CALCULATION
At voestalpine, we attach great importance to the precise calculation of the carbon footprint. We use the so-called cradle-to-gate approach to make our environmental impact as transparent and comprehensible as possible. The footprint is calculated based on EN 15804+A2 (Environmental Product Declaration, EPD), and pursuant to worldsteel CML 2001-2016 when requested by the customer.
More details are available in our greentec Steel Edition Factsheet:
TRUE SAVINGS
Innovative technologies and processes make it physically possible to achieve reductions in the steelmaking process. We also focus on the use of green electricity in our energy supply in order to reduce environmental impact.
AND ABSOLUTE TRANSPARENCY
At voestalpine we ensure absolute transparency by achieving and documenting traceable savings through carbon optimization measures in the steel production process. This allows us to better understand the environmental impact along the entire value chain.
Environmental impact and reduced carbon emissions are regularly reviewed and validated by external, independent entities such as LRQA.
We are also committed to greater sustainability through the use of transport routes and means that are as environmentally compatible as possible. We strive to implement sustainable practices in production as well as in our packaging and throughout the supply chain.
FOR ONE AND ALL
These improvements and developments in the area of climate neutrality apply not only to selected products, but to each and every one. This is a clear sign of our commitment to a sustainable future.
As a company focused on sustainability, voestalpine is a pioneer in the steel industry and is committed to shaping a sustainable and environmentally compatible future for everyone!
