Premium electrical steel for maximum performance
voestalpine is aware of its ecological responsibility and has always been totally committed to high levels of sustainability. Our clear goal is steel production processes with net zero carbon emissions by 2050. But even today, steel is available in the greentec steel Edition with a reduced carbon footprint in proven voestalpine premium quality, and we are actively committed to reducing the environmental impact of steel production with sustainable added value. With isovac®, voestalpine is a leader in providing unique services, innovative materials, logistics, commercial advise and technical consultation in order to provide a comprehensive package of benefits.
Low energy consumption
Thanks to the intelligent use of released energy and the optimal selection of process parameters, voestalpine already produces isovac® with very low energy consumption, and this is reflected in the EPDs.
Benchmark for secondary raw material content
With a secondary raw material content of just over 25%, we offer premium quality with the currently highest proportion of scrap used in the blast furnace route. The industry average is 13 to 21%.
Free from chromium and formaldehyde
In close cooperation with leading European varnish producers, we supply insulating varnishes that meet specific customer requirements and do not contain any toxic, carcinogenic or mutagenic substances. They are also free from chromium compounds and comply with all relevant EU directives.
Made locally for a global market
Our high-tech production facilities and the use of varnishes produced by renowned European manufacturers form the foundation for the consistently high level of quality that is characteristic of isovac®. Thanks to our integrated steel works at the Linz location, we always have full control of all value-adding process steps involved, from iron ore to the varnish finish. With premium quality made in Austria, we not only use modern production facilities, but we are also close to our customers.
The ideas of today are the innovations of tomorrow
Our technical experts and researchers deal have developed even more sustainable solutions for the day after tomorrow. From industrial motors to drive motors in electric vehicles and generators: The use of isovac® in high-quality motors can reduce energy consumption and increase the efficiency of power generation. This helps conserve valuable resources. In order to further improve efficiency, voestalpine is continuously researching and developing even more energy-efficient electrical steel.
Steel is the champion of recycling
Steel is 100% recyclable and the world's most recycled material. Steel outperforms plastic, aluminum, glass and copper and can be recycled again and again. Steel is considered to be a synonym for circular economy.
Sustainable steel with an impressive footprint
Our EPDs published in 2023 for our electrical steel clearly make us a pioneer. To date (August 2024) there are no other EPDs published pursuant to ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2 for electrical steel. When compared with the global and European average, the footprints of our conventional production process are the benchmark. But it gets even better that that: Our greentec steel Edition has made it possible for us to offer isovac® premium quality with a reduced carbon footprint since 2022.
greentec steel – our path to a green future
The greentec steel project of voestalpine is an ambitious step-by-step plan that makes a valuable contribution to the achievement of our climate goals.
