voestalpine cares run: 700,000 euros for a good cause

Following the 300,000 euros in emergency aid which voestalpine donated to UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, and Hilfswerk International on behalf of the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, voestalpine is once again demonstrating its social commitment. From mid-April to the end of June, a new initiative for the Group’s employees worldwide was conducted under the motto “moving together and doing good”. While running, walking, hiking, wheelchair driving, or handcycling, employees were able to use an app to collect digital points known as “cares” which the steel and technology Group then converted into donations for charitable causes. The total donation of 400,000 euros generated by the voestalpine cares run have now been handed over to UNICEF and the Austrian Red Cross for selected aid projects.

More than 4,100 employees in 41 countries took part in the voestalpine cares run. Together covering a total of almost 650,000 kilometers, they not only helped to improve their own health but also to make the world a little bit better.

We have already donated a total of 700,000 euros to various institutions since the start of this year, once again demonstrating that cohesion and solidarity are established voestalpine values.

The donations generated by the voestalpine cares run were handed over to UNICEF and the Austrian Red Cross for the following aid projects:

Back to school – Digital Learning Center: Millions of children are refugees within Ukraine. This UNICEF program is designed to get children learning again by providing digital access to education opportunities.
Blue Dots Romania: The majority of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine are women and children. UNICEF offers them protection, basic care, and physical and psychological support in its Blue Dots centers located in Ukraine’s neighboring country.
Emergency aid for families in need: The Austrian Red Cross provides immediate and direct aid to families in emergency situations who live near voestalpine sites in Austria.
