Innovative Heat Recovery Technology
voestalpine Foundry Group is increasingly focusing on more environmentally friendly energy utilization in Traisen. The goal is to make efficient use of industrial waste heat. In collaboration with Bio-Energie Köflach GmbH, the technical integration and optimization of waste heat recovery is being implemented. As a result, excess heat from the foundry’s compressors will be extracted and fed into the local district heating network in the future.
By using an innovative heat exchanger, the supply temperature of the district heating network is specifically increased, enabling even more efficient energy utilization.
From November 2024, the maximum possible heat output of approximately 60 MWh per month will be fully utilized - equivalent to an annual supply of around 720 MWh. This amount of energy can provide environmentally friendly district heating for about 50 to 60 single-family homes.
