TOGETHER WE MOVE THE WORLD

voestalpine cares run

Together as a voestalpine team

After a successful start in 2023, the voestalpine cares run is entering the next round. From March 1, 2025 to May 23, 2025, our employees will not only do something for their health, they’ll also helping people in need.

We’re helping to change the world, by running, walking, hiking, wheelchair driving, or handcycling, all around the world, and collecting digital “cares” along the way. It’s not about achieving record times or going the longest distance. It’s about everyone coming together to help make a difference.

Step by step, voestalpine donations will be released for charitable purposes. That means we are all contributing to creating a sustainable and better world—not just through our products, but also by supporting international aid projects.

Herbert Eibensteiner

voestalpine takes its social responsibility seriously. As part of the voestalpine cares run, we want to bundle our social commitment worldwide again this year. Employees are joining forces to raise the maximum amount of money possible.

What we have achieved

cares run

With each sporting activity, the cares circles gradually filled up. Each circle represents a donation stage and a specific donation amount. The money is distributed to selected charitable projects.

The concept

Start: March 1, 2025

The voestalpine cares run starts on March 1, 2024 and runs through to May 23, 2025.

Our goal

To get as many employees as possible to take part, to release the maximum donation.

International aid projects

The donations go to selected charitable projects.

Projects we support

Future prospects for young people in Brazil (UNICEF)

UNICEF Brazil

This year, the voestalpine cares run is once again supporting UNICEF's "1 Million Opportunities" initiative in Brazil, which provides young people with access to high-quality education. Among other things, the focus is on training in entrepreneurial, green and job-related skills (e.g. training programmes in mechanical engineering, logistics or metalworking). This provides young people with vocational training, workshops and internships that can later secure them a place on the labour market. Thanks to the contribution of voestalpine cares run, around 6,700 young people can be reached by these programmes.

Emergency disaster relief RISK kits (Médecins Sans Frontières)

RISK Kit

In an emergency situation, such as after a natural disaster, the first 72 hours are crucial. The MSF team can use a rapid intervention surgical kit (RISK kit for short) to set up a "mini operating room" in the shortest possible time, even in areas that are difficult to access. The kits can be transported by hand and enable immediate first aid to be provided in crisis or disaster areas. Depending on the emergency situation, they can be customised to the needs of the medical team with their surgical materials and equipment. In one operating room, a team of six can carry out around five major surgical operations per day. The voestalpine cares run enables the purchase of two to three RISK kits - and thus mobile operating rooms - for Médecins Sans Frontières.

Education and Digital Learning Center in Ukraine (UNICEF)

Digital Learning Center UNICEF

The learning process for children in Ukraine continues to be severely disrupted by the war. UNICEF is now creating safe learning opportunities through 50 Digital Learning Centres. The children are provided with tablets and laptops and trained teachers give them access to formal and non-formal education, even in the frontline regions. With the voestalpine cares run, a DLC can be set up and operations continued.

Help Points (Hilfswerk International)

Help Points Hilfswerk International

Hilfswerk International's Help Points offer low-threshold and immediate support in the areas affected by the war in Ukraine. The centres help residents with food, everyday products, psychosocial support and counselling for vulnerable people. Children's rooms also create a safe place for children to play and learn. With the voestalpine cares run contribution, a help point can be operated for around 10 months.

Learning centers for children and young people in Austria (Austrian Red Cross)

Learning centers Austrian Red Cross

The Austrian Red Cross supports children and young people whose families are dependent on free learning support at over 160 locations in Austria. In 12 Red Cross learning centres and through learning support at schools and other locations (Red Cross district offices, youth centres), Red Cross employees and volunteers provide the support needed to improve educational opportunities and open up broader future prospects for children and young people. Thanks to the voestalpine cares run, around 400 children and young people can be supported in the learning centres and at the school site with more than 6,000 units.

Toyota Land Cruiser (Médecins Sans Frontières)

Toyota Land Cruiser Médecins Sans Frontières

Conflicts, food crises and water shortages are causing acute (medical) emergencies in many countries, such as Tanzania and Chad. Médecins Sans Frontières uses Toyota Land Cruisers specially equipped with radio and protective equipment to reach the affected areas in such emergencies. With the support of the voestalpine cares run, the purchase of two equipped Land Cruisers is possible.
