voestalpine is aware of its ecological responsibility and has always set lofty sustainability goals. The clear objective is to produce carbon-neutral steel by 2050. But even today, steel is available in the greentec steel Edition with a reduced carbon footprint in proven voestalpine premium quality, and we are actively committed to reducing the environmental impact of steel production with sustainable added value. Fine-grained alform® structural steels achieve this objective primarily in significant weight savings.
Lower fuel consumption in construction machinery
Machines and devices become lighter and require less energy when material thickness is reduced without sacrificing stability. The lower net weight and higher payload result in reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.
Welding with reduced energy consumption
Thermomechanically rolled alform® steels are weldable primarily as a result of their low carbon equivalent. Only little or no preheating is required during welding, and this leads to significant energy savings.
Sustainable steel with an impressive footprint
Further development in the design of established components also depends on the properties of improved materials. Maximized strength and – most importantly – the increased tensile strength of voestalpine steel grades developed for the machinery industry make it possible to achieve unprecedented designs with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
High-strength steel in the greentec steel Edition
In addition to the fact that steel is 100% recyclable, the steel of voestalpine features low carbon footprints. In an effort to reduce our footprint even further and as a first step toward climate neutrality, all alform® steels are available in the greentec steel Edition. greentec steel is sustainable voestalpine premium quality with a reduced carbon footprint.
