High-strength premium steel for mechanical engineering
alform® is a fine-grained structural steel with the best cold forming properties, very good flexibility and weldability as well as significant potential for weight savings. Depending on the area of application, different strength classes are available to meet each design requirement and score points with excellent surface quality.
High-strength steel in various shapes and sizes
As a coil, slit strip or sheet made of hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel strip or heavy plate, alform® steels meet the highest aesthetic and economic requirements in the final application.
Extreme performance
The alform® grades are weldable and edgeable fine-grained structural steels with excellent material properties:
- Weight and volume reduction
- Best cuttability
- Excellent cold formability
- Excellent toughness
- Excellent flatness
- Clean surface
- Excellent weldability
Economization strategies in demanding lightweight applications
The following figure shows the potential savings achieved by implementing ultra-high-strength steels in a bending beam under static load. This is a rectangular hollow profile section (120 mm x 80 mm x thickness) that was longitudinally welded with a V seam and a bending moment of 50 kNm.
Fine-grained structural steel for a wide range of applications in mechanical engineering
alform® M
Thermomechanically rolled alform® steels have a low-carbon, fine-grained microstructure and are thus very well suited to forming and welding.
alform® MU
Micro-alloyed and thermomechanically rolled alform® steels are characterized by excellent cold formability of the punched edges.
alform® N
These normalized-rolled alform® steels achieve the listed mechanical properties in as-delivered condition and after being additionally normalized.
alform® x-treme
The high-strength and ultra-high-strength alform® x-treme steels make efficient light-weight design and maximum weight savings possible. Available as hot-rolled strip, cold-rolled strip and heavy plate
alform® laser
Normalized-rolled or thermomechanically rolled, alform® laser steels are particularly suitable for laser cutting. This is achieved by guaranteed maximum flatness deviations of 3 mm per 1 m and narrowest thickness tolerances.
Thermomechanically rolled steel for outstanding mechanical properties
voestalpine has established itself as a pioneer and quality leader in the production of thermomechanically rolled steels. This method achieves mechanical-technological properties that cannot be achieved by heat treatment alone. In addition to very good toughness, thermomechanically rolled steels are also characterized by better weldability than regular annealed steels.
