The partnership between the manufacturer of tools and fastening technology Hilti and voestalpine Wire Rod Austria has been in place for more than 20 years. As a highlight of the successful collaboration, the top customer presented voestalpine Wire Rod Austria with the Innovation Excellence Award 2023 in June 2024.
They are not only united by their strong focus on research & development (R&D) and sustainability, voestalpine Wire Rod Austria has also found the right counterpart in Hilti when it comes to corporate culture and goals. Hilti and the voestalpine Wire Technology Group have been working together for two decades, including a research partnership with voestalpine Wire Rod Austria.
Hilti does not see us as a pure research service provider. We focus on exchange and mutual transfer of know-how, which creates added value for both sides.
The partnership got off to a real kick-start between 2015 and 2017: the new state-of-the-art wire rod mill and the commissioning of the TechMet opened up completely new opportunities for R&D. And thus also for further success stories of the two pioneers.
The "Setting nail" project is one of these success stories. Hilti researched a solution for adapting the setting nail to the new requirements of the construction industry: Lower overall costs, lighter structures and reduced CO2 emissions call for thinner constructions as well as harder material. The aim was therefore to optimize the material without increasing costs. With the TechMet, it was easy to carry out test melts in small quantities, and Hilti tested the results in detail.
The properties of the setting nail, which is inserted into the underlying steel girder to fasten the corrugated metal roof, must also be adapted to the hardness of the substrate material.
Awarded. In June 2024, Hilti recognized the outstanding R&D and innovation capabilities of voestalpine Wire Rod Austria with the Innovation Excellence Award 2023 as part of its Supplier Recognition Model. voestalpine Wire Rod Austria was the only company from the steel industry to receive the award at Hilti's Liechtenstein headquarters. The decisive factor was the company's innovation capability: the high level of innovation through sound metallurgical know-how in combination with partnership-based material development, top quality and reliability.
Receiving the award from such a renowned company is something very special for us. It shows that the cooperation within the voestalpine Wire Technology Group and with Hilti works extremely well.
