Als eines der ältesten Verfahren zum Verbinden von Metallen ist das Lichtbogenhandschweißen ein fester Bestandteil unserer modernen Welt. Beim Lichtbogenhandschweißen wird der Lichtbogen zwischen einer umhüllten Stabelektrode und dem Grundwerkstoff gezündet. Dieses Schweißverfahren ist auch als MMAW (Manual Metal Arc Welding) oder SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) bekannt. Das Verfahren ist im Stahl- und Rohrleitungsbau nach wie vor unverzichtbar und kann bei allen Wetterbedingungen eingesetzt werden. Ungefähr 25 bis 30 % der weltweit geschweißten Produkte werden mit Stabelektroden hergestellt.
