voestalpine Tubulars premium pipes for the Semmering Base Tunnel

11 December 2024 |

voestalpine Tubulars is making a significant contribution to one of the most important tunnel projects, the construction of the Semmering Base Tunnel. The high-strength tubes offer the best mechanical properties and highest quality for challenging geological conditions. Find out more about how we, as a seamless pipe specialist, provide the best possible support for tunnel construction projects.

The 27.3 kilometre Semmering Base Tunnel will connect Gloggnitz in Lower Austria with Mürzzuschlag in Styria from 2030. The journey from Vienna to Graz by train will take less than two hours when one of the longest railway tunnels is completed. voestalpine Tubulars is ensuring safe tunnelling with high-strength steel grades of mechanical tubes and is meeting the complex requirements of the project.

The multi-layered rock structure with hard, soft, dry and water-bearing layers requires special measures such as injection drilling, for which the high-quality mechanical tubes from voestalpine Tubulars are ideally suited.

Via the indirect sales channel and in close co-operation with long-standing partners, our pipes are delivered just-in-time and ready for installation directly to the construction site. Our pipes are then used in a special injection drilling process and successfully withstand the geological and geotechnical challenges.

Our high-strength tempered steel pipes are used for injection drilling processes and can withstand the strongest geological forces.
