RAILWAY TRANSPORTS FOR A GREENER ENVIRONMENT
At voestalpine, we make sure that everything stays on track to protect the planet: A climate-friendly rail shuttle between Bavaria and Linz transports more than half a million tons of steel and scrap annually. The environmentally friendly logistics systems are based on a cooperation between voestalpine CargoServ and DB Cargo.
ROUND-TRIP TRANSPORT RUNS FOR GREEN ADDED VALUE
With its round-trip and full-capacity runs, the Bavaria Shuttle focuses on the environment. Every workday, the shuttle takes steel from our headquarters in Linz to Lower and Upper Bavaria and to the Upper Palatinate in Germany, home to several major automakers who are happy to receive on-time and sustainable deliveries. In return, scrap from the German production lines is sent back to us to be used in steel production. The advantages of this round-trip run are twofold: It provides relief for the Bavarian-Austrian roadways and protects the environment at the same time.
COURSE SET FOR THE FUTURE
We don’t believe that choosing the railway as an environmentally friendly means of transport is enough. Exclusively green and carbon-emission-free electricity is used by the Bavaria Shuttle on both the Austrian and German railway lines. When compared with truck transport, this saves a total of roughly 8000 tons of CO2 every year.
VICTORY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
A significant contribution of the Bavaria Shuttle to environmental protection convinced a top-class jury of the Deutsche Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL = German Logistics Association): LogServ and CargoServ, two subsidiaries in the voestalpine Steel Division, and DB Cargo were awarded the German Logistics Award in 2021.
I'm on the hype train for our environment, are you? Let's make sure we don't miss our connection to protect our future.
