A SUSTAINABLE MASTERPIECE
voestalpine STRENGTHENS POSITION IN DOW JONES SUSTAINABILITY INDEX
The sustainability trend is now an integral part of well-known stock indices. We are all the more pleased that voestalpine has once again found a place in the renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe (DJSI Europe). This was announced on December 8th of last year.
PART OF THE GREEN SUCCESS STORY
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) was introduced in 1999 as a pioneering series of global sustainability benchmarks. As part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Family, the DJSI Europe represents the top 20% of the largest 600 European companies in the S&P Global Broad Market IndexSM that are at the forefront of sustainability. In general, voestalpine AG is the first and only company in steel production to have previously made the cut in this globally renowned ranking. The announcement thus not only confirms the clear commitment to sustainability, but also underlines the long-standing active responsibility in this area.
PART OF THE DOW JONES FAMILY
The repeated appearance in the DJSI Europe Index not only shows the remarkable progress of voestalpine in terms of climate protection, but also that the group is not alone with its goals and efforts - if you look at the other listed companies.
Good prerequisites for a green future!
PART OF MANY OTHER SUSTAINABILITY FAMILIES
Apart from the renewed listing in the DJSI, voestalpine is also represented in many other important environmental rankings and initiatives in very good positions. These are, for example, FTSE4Good, EcoVadis, CDP or the SBTi. And because such environmental rankings apparently like to cause confusion with their various abbreviations and acronyms, here are the most important ones explained in a nutshell.
FTSE4GOOD
The FTSE4Good Index Series was developed to measure the performance of companies that demonstrate certain environmental, social and governance (or ESG) practices. voestalpine has been listed in the FTSE4Good since 2020.
ECOVADIS
EcoVadis is also a leading provider of sustainability assessments worldwide. The entire supply chain is evaluated with regard to the environment, labor practices, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. voestalpine enjoys an EcoVadis GOLD ranking with the same number of points as in the previous year. Hats off!
CDP
The CDP (Climate Disclosure Project) score provides an overview of a company's disclosure and environmental performance. The ratings show organizations like voestalpine and its stakeholders where they stand on the path to an operation in line with the 1.5-degree policy and a deforestation-free and water-secure future. By continuously disclosing over several years, observers can better track development.
SBTI
The SBTI (Science-based Target Initiatives) is a global initiative to achieve the Paris climate protection goals, which combines expert knowledge from various organizations: Climate Disclosure Project (CDP), UN Global Compact, World Resources Institute and World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF). The network develops methods and resources for science-based targets for climate and nature, and thus also guidelines for companies to reduce negative environmental impacts along the entire value chain.
ENVIRONMENTAL RANKINGS ARE GAINING IN IMPORTANCE
Investors, analysts and, above all, customers use indices and special ratings to form an opinion on the sustainability of companies. Either the entire corporate group or individual locations are evaluated according to ESG criteria. voestalpine is very proud to score so well and, above all, consistently well in the important rankings through targeted environmental measures. One step ahead.
The renewed listing in the DJSI Europe makes me totally happy. But the best thing is that sustainability at voestalpine is far more than just an index or a number - it is lived corporate culture and a promise for a green future.
