A STADIUM WHERE NOT ONLY THE LAWN IS GREEN
FULL voestalpine SUSTAINABILITY IN THE NEW RAIFFEISEN ARENA
The new Raiffeisen Arena in Linz has heralded in a new era for the LASK soccer club. The sustainable and environmentally friendly construction and materials are second to none. The facade and roof surfaces are architectural highlights made of voestalpine steel that was manufactured using a carbon-reduced production route.
GREEN SPACE FOR INDOOR AND OUTDOOR USE
A total of 19,000 square meters of facade and roof surfaces were made with steel supplied by voestalpine customers Filli Stahl and Zambelli. The sustainably produced and innovative colofer® steel, colofer® ROBUST, was installed in the greentec Steel Edition in the stadium and gives the new structure a modern and green look for all the LASK fans to enjoy. It is an urban highlight that sets a clear standard in terms of architectural sustainability.
THE RIGHT STUFF
colofer® ROBUST is an organic-coated steel strip for easy processing and forming and boasts especially high resistance to scratches, wind effects and other adverse weather conditions. The product is extremely resistant to scratching thanks to its special surface. The high level of UV resistance (RUV 4) and a guarantee for altitudes up to 2100 meters are also important features.
STARS IN THE WORLDS OF SOCCER AND STEELMAKING
A video shown during tours of the Raiffeisen Arena, which opened its doors in February 2023, depicts the arena itself as a true star. But the soccer professionals, of course, are the real stars on the playing field. The video also highlights the large facade and roof surfaces that have been installed using voestalpine steel in the greentec steel Edition. And that really makes sense, because even now the respective manufacturing technologies reduce carbon emissions by up to 10%. The next major step toward carbon-neutral steel production will follow with a gradual changeover from the blast furnace route to electric-arc furnace technology beginning in 2027.
Would you like to know what soccer players and voestalpine have in common? Technique!
