Ferritic, martensitic, and precipitation-hardened steels are hard, durable, and resist high temperatures. As a ferritic steel supplier, voestalpine Specialty Metals stocks various configurations of these metals for our global oil and gas customers.
Super 13 Chrome and 420 Mod are martensitic stainless steel alloys with exceptional corrosion resistance. Their durability in extremely harsh environments makes them reliable materials for downhole completion tools, including tubing, packers, and subs.
Martensitic steels can withstand chemical aggression and physical demands of deep-well applications. Their durability reduces required maintenance and extends tool lifespan, making them an excellent value for oil and gas operators.
13Cr, or 420 Mod, is a modified version of 420 stainless steel. It provides excellent mechanical strength and resistance to sulfide stress cracking. 420 Mod is suitable for limited sour service under NACE MR0175 and is often used for tools exposed to hydrogen sulfide in sour gas wells.
Its properties also make it suitable for petrochemical and chemical processing applications. 420 Mod meets the specifications of NACE MR0175 and ASTM A484 and is a popular choice for structural tools, mandrels, and drill collars.
Super 13Cr is a higher-grade chrome steel alloy with improved corrosion resistance. It performs well in high-pressure, high-temperature environments and is less prone to pitting and cracking.
Super 13Cr can be produced to the specifications of UNS S41425, S41426, S41427, and ASTM A-276. We supply both 110 ksi and 95 ksi versions.
vSM supplies 420M available in round bar with OD’s ranging from 2.50 – 10” diameter. S13CR (95 & 110) is available in round bar ranging from 4.75 – 9.00” diameter. We produce bespoke internal diameters according to our deep hole drilling capabilities of 1.2 to 8 inches.
Ferritic, martensitic, and PH steels offer corrosion resistance and hardness that make them excellent for industrial, power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemical equipment, including:
Their ability to withstand irradiation allows nuclear power plants to use ferritic-martensitic steels for reactor components.
