At voestalpine Specialty Metals North America, we’re the leaders in high-performance metals for the oil and gas industry. In addition to nickel superalloys and austenitic stainless steel, we produce precision Duplex and Super Duplex steels. As a trusted duplex steel supplier, we have a global network for just-in-time delivery.
Duplex and Super Duplex alloys have two phases, taking advantage of both austenitic and ferritic properties. This avoids many weaknesses of popular 300-series stainless steel and offers enhanced benefits:
Other stainless steel grades (as well as copper parts) are more limited. They can either offer maximum corrosion resistance or maximum strength, but not both.
Learn more about our Duplex and Super Duplex steels:
The extraordinary qualities of these high-performance stainless steel alloys come from their high content of chromium (22% to 26%), molybdenum, and nitrogen, along with 4% to 8% nickel. As a longtime duplex 2205 and super duplex steel supplier, voestalpine offers stainless steel bar in many industry specs, including ASTM A182/ASTM A479, ASTM A484, and NACE MR0175.
Duplex offers greater corrosion resistance and strength than 304 and 316 stainless steel. It’s an excellent wide-ranging solution when running into performance issues with other stainless steel grades. Common applications include heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and corrosion-resistant piping systems.
Super Duplex does everything even better, with superior tensile and yield strength, resistance to acids, and pitting resistance. It usually also costs more because of the higher nickel content. Super Duplex shows up more frequently on offshore oil and gas platforms and chemical manufacturing facilities.
