Austenitic Steels

Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and durable, making it ideal for many aerospace, marine, medical, and industrial applications. voestalpine Specialty Metals North America stocks high-performance austenitic steel bars, including A286 and Nitronic 50.

Key Benefits and Applications of Austenitic Steel Bar and Tube

Grade 660 and Nitronic 50 are high-performance austenitic stainless steels with high strength, corrosion resistance, and durability. They perform well in high-temperature environments, making them a good choice for demanding industries such as aerospace, marine, and oil and gas where extreme conditions are common.

Grade 660

A-286 is an iron-based superalloy with high nickel content between 24% and 27%. It has a high tensile strength and excellent oxidation resistance, and it retains its mechanical properties at high temperatures. It is a preferred material for fasteners, turbine blades, and jet engine parts in the aerospace, automotive, and gas turbine industries.

Grade 660 steel from voestalpine Specialty Metals meets the specifications for ASTM A453 Gr 660 B+D, ASTM A638 Gr 660 Type 2, NACE MR0175, and UNS S66286.

Nitronic 50

Nitronic 50 is a nitrogen-strengthened stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and high yield strength. It performs well in marine and petrochemical environments, making it ideal for applications including seawater pump shafts, valves, and marine hardware. Its mechanical properties also make Nitronic 50 a good choice for chemical processing components.

voestalpine Specialty Metals stocks Nitronic 50 in the following three forms: Nitronic 50 Annealed Bar (XM-19), Nitronic 50 High Strength Bar (XM-19), and Nitronic 50 High Strength Flow-Formed Tubing (XM-19). Nitronic 50 austenitic steel bar is a favorite material for drill collars, fishing tools, non-magnetic mud motors, and pumps. The oil and gas industry uses Nitronic 50 austenitic steel tubes for non-magnetic downhole tools and MWD/ LWD pressure housings.

Nitronic 50 annealed bar meets ASTM A276 specifications, while our high strength bar and tubing meet ASTM A276 and ASTM A370 specifications, respectively.
