400 assets. voestalpine Railway Systems is supplying 256 high-speed turnouts and 144 rail expansion joints to compensate for temperature-related length changes of tracks on bridges and viaducts for the Green Line construction phase of Egypt’s first high-speed line.
Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) will develop a 1,800km-long integrated high-speed rail network in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The high-speed network will connect the Red Sea and the Mediterranean allowing trains to operate at a maximum speed of 250km/h. It sets the path for Egypt’s plans to invest in a reliable high-speed rail network to transform public transportation in the country.
The railway system will feature the latest technology and comply with European standards. The European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-compliant signalling system will incorporate the latest computerised interlocking technology. The 660km-long first line of the network will stretch between the Port of Sokhna on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean ports of Marsa Matrouh and Alexandria. It will cover 21 stations and is expected to transport more than 30 million people a year. The line will also reduce the travel time by up to 50%. Two more lines are going to be part of the network, one of which will connect Luxor city in southern Egypt to Safaga port town via Hurghada along the Red Sea coast, while the other city will link on the 6th of October along the Nile River with Aswan.
The first line will be maintained using vaDTM’s highly sophisticated state-of-the-art asset management and maintenance solution.
DTM is a ready-to-use application including and storing all relevant asset data at one place. It comes along with product descriptions, quality documents and factory acceptance protocols of the turnout manufacturer. Moreover, all assets - prone to wear and tear - are serialized and equipped with a tag containing a data matrix code enabling one to enter the products digital world. In addition to all benefits, this unique approach enables efficient spare parts management and procurement too.
For an efficient resource and maintenance planning DTM provides checklists and maintenance recommendations based on manufacturer’s experience and best practice. These plans and routines are of course adjustable according to the needs and requirements of the operator.
