On December 12, 2022, the new 250km/h high-speed line from Oslo to Ski was put into operation in Norway. This is the largest Norwegian transport project to date and the longest rail tunnel in Scandinavia.
Commuters and other rail travelers will be able to travel faster from Oslo to Ski on the new 22km double-track high-speed Follobanen line, which mainly consists of the 19.5km twin-tube Blix Tunnel. With the new trial speed of 200km/h, the travel time on this connection has already been halved, from 22 to 11 minutes.
voestalpine Rail Technology GmbH supplied around 5,500 tons of 120-m-long high-tech VI60E1 rails in grade R260Mn to Bane NOR for this project between April and August 2020.
The scope of supply also included the rental of the innovative long rail unloading system RAILPUTLER® to Grenland Rail AS in the period from May to December 2020. Comprehensive training, including detailed operating instructions for the RAILPUTLER®, was also included and took place online due to the Corona pandemic.
