In 2020, voestalpine Railway Systems was chosen as a supplier of the very prestigious project in the United Arab Emirates – Etihad Rail Stage 2 - the 605km extension of the federal rail network. The new railway network will link Ghuweifat on the border with Saudi Arabia to Fujairah and Khorfakkan on the UAE’s east coast.

voestalpine Railway Systems, chosen as a supplier of the Ethihad Rail Stage 2, will manufacture and supply heavy haul turnouts to five different packages delivered under respective engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. All turnouts will be designed and produced using the heat treated 400UHC® HSH® Super Premium rails. The benefit for the customer will be a significant improvement of the LCC values, which is particularly important under the project’s operational and environmental conditions.

In addition, voestalpine Railway Systems secured the supply of UNISTAR HR Switch Machines and ROADMASTER® SCM Switch Condition Monitoring as part of the Etihad Rail 2 - Systems contract.
For voestalpine the success story continues following the supply and reliable operation of UNISTAR HR switch machines for Etihad Rail Stage 1 (Shah – Habshan – Ruwais), while voestalpine’s latest ROADMASTER® SCM system will enable the future operation and maintenance company of Etihad Rail to introduce the concept of condition based maintenance for switch machines as well as turnouts, thus optimizing PERFORMANCE ON TRACK®.
