Point setting systems for Future-Proof Metro Traffic

1 August 2024 |

Explore some of our recent point setting system installations around the world in cities like Paris, Taipei, Doha, New York, and Porto.

Our experts for DLD-Systems (Drive, Locking and Detection), with over 35 years of experience, are continuously evolving the standards of state-of-the-art point setting system technology. Across 70 countries with several tens of thousands of point machines installed, we ensure unmatched reliability and availability, even in the most challenging conditions.

Additionally – we have specialized in delivering innovative solutions to meet our customers' more complex needs.

Our point machines prove themselves on mainline and depot tracks, in exciting projects around the globe:

During each phase of the track life cycle, especially

  • New construction projects
  • Retrofittings
  • Whilst maintanance service of existing drives
  • Track recommissioning

Extreme micro- and macroclimates as well as harsh and changing environments like

  • Deserts, jungle, maritime and subpolar climates
  • Flooding
  • Intense heat and cold
  • Changing conditions due to climate changes

Special maintenance environments

  • To be overrun with axle-loads of up to 10 tonnes e.g. rescue vehicles
  • Vibration stress

Flexible construction, tailored to individual and extraordinary track conditions

  • Narrow, low or difficile installation spaces
  • High exposure of dust, dirt and water and high humidity as in mining

Featured Projects

  • Details: Double crossing R500 1/14 on slab track in tunnel, equipped with UNISTAR HR with wall mounted hydraulic system, EPD4.0, and Torsion-setting device at Noisy Champ station

Customer: CORAL (joint venture between Alstom and Colas)

Grand Paris Line 15-2 showcases our expertise in urban environments, with point machines that adapt to narrow spaces and ensure optimal performance and reliability across several setting levels in one turnout.

  • Details: UNISTAR HR with in-track hydraulic unit, layout on concrete bearers in ballasted track

    Customer: Hitachi Rail

The Taipei Circle Line 1 project highlights our space-saving innovations. The in-track hydraulic units optimize space without compromising functionality, providing a robust and efficient solution for Taipei's metro network.

  • Details: Installation on top of PORR slab track structure. Both hydraulic and DLD-unit are placed between the rails to save space

    Customer: Thales

The project was inaugurated in time for the football world championship. The point setting systems, some of which are equipped with several setting levels, are working reliably in extremely hot and humid climatic conditions.

  • Details: Pelham Bay Park Station (Bronx) – Crossover on elevated structure, UNISTAR HR IP68 version, fully submersible with over 400 settings per day

    Customer: New York Transit Authority

The MTA NYCT project showcases our high-performance solutions in demanding environments. The fully submersible UNISTAR HR (IP68) point machines provide reliable and robust signaling for one of the world's busiest transit systems. For quick and easy maintenance, inspection windows have been implemented in the cover to enable visual inspection.

  • Details: Vignol- Turnouts installed on slab structure without concrete cutouts in very low installation depth

    Customer: ALSTOM

The Linha Amarela Metro do Porto project highlights our expertise in efficient, space-saving solutions for urban metro networks, ensuring reliability and safety for Porto's metro system.
