Siershahn Site: Investing in the Future

7 August 2024 |

With an investment of 5 million euros in a new logistics, production and office building, the company is responding to the growing demand for intelligent diagnostic and monitoring technologies for railway traffic.

The Siershahn site, known for its advanced diagnostic solutions used by railway infrastructure operators and rail transport companies worldwide, plays a key role in the voestalpine Railway Systems Group. Here, state-of-the-art sensor and monitoring solutions are developed to ensure 24/7 track availability. The modular diagnostic systems, known as checkpoints, enable precise monitoring of trains and make a significant contribution to increasing safety and efficiency in rail operations. Various critical components on the train, such as wheel bearings, brakes or wheels, are monitored as the train travels along the track in order to prevent derailments in the worst-case scenario.

The new building, which took 20 months to build, covers an area of 3,345 m² and offers a flexible layout that will meet future challenges. The entire value chain, from incoming goods to production and delivery, has been bundled in the new building according to lean principles. This will significantly increase production capacity. The site currently employs around 213 people and is a major employer in the region.

The opening of the new building in July 2024 was celebrated in style. Around 70 guests, including representatives from local schools, universities, associations and regional politics, attended the event. The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the diverse job opportunities and innovative technologies being developed at voestalpine Railway Systems. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of training future specialists, with 10% of the workforce currently in apprenticeships.
