February 14, 2014 | Cold roll-formed steel specialist Metsec quietly shone at the FPDC’s Annual Plaisterer’s Awards 2014 after having lent its design expertise to all three framing projects shortlisted in the “Steel Framed Systems Contract” category.
Framing Technology Ltd won the Steel Framed Systems award at the FPDC Awards, demonstrating engineering excellence with its work on a Homes for Islington scheme in London. The challenging three-storey residential build at Holbrooke Court, Islington, called for a tailored design solution as floor plans differed, with cantilevers on the walls and floors not lining up from floor to floor. In collaboration with Metsec’s engineers, Framing Technology projected a solution that used a load-bearing site fixed steel framing system that was smoothly incorporated with hot rolled steelwork.
No less influential was Metsec’s contribution to the external envelope design for 167 residential units in Acton, realised by Stanmore for Countryside Properties, as well as the manufacturer’s supply of steel framing and design assistance to the Emerald Square residential scheme in Roehampton, which was delivered by Ferns Drylining for St James Homes. Here, a space-saving, easy to handle framing system was required due to a tight site with limited access.
Roy Burns, Managing Director for Metsec Lightweight Steel Structures, comments:
“We compliment Framing Technology Ltd on the award and are proud to have been able to support them in designing a bespoke framing solution for a project that has received the recognition of the Federation of Plastering and Drywall Contractors. Equally, we feel that it is a great compliment to Metsec that Framing Technology, Stanmore and Ferns Drylining chose to closely work with us to find the best possible technical solutions for their projects.”
