September 26, 2014 | Oldbury-based lightweight structural steel and cold roll forming specialist, Metsec has been recognised by BSI, the business standards company, as one of the first manufacturers of its kind to operate an Integrated Management System (IMS) that complies with the requirements of PAS 99:2012.
The globally recognized standard for integrated management systems, PAS 99 was developed to help organizations adopt a systematic and streamlined approach to business processes, by reducing the time spent on internal auditing, eliminating multiple audits and simplifying management control.
The certification body has recognised Metsec’s compliance relative to the design of light gauge building super structures; the design and supply of lattice joists and trusses; the design and manufacture of cold rolled, pre-pieced, welded profiles and open profiles and their accessories; the manipulation and fabrication of welded profiles.
PAS99:2012 certification proves that Metsec has successfully aligned a combination of formal management system standards including ISO9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management and BS OHSAS Occupational Health and Safety in one holistic framework that results in leaner, more efficient management processes and procedures.
Metsec Quality Manager, Alan Harris confirms, “By obtaining BSI certification, we have ensured continuity in our management procedures, manufacture and supply chain. Our IMS builds on streamlined processes, reduced energy usage and improved health and safety performance, which is helping us to enhance business growth and boost the performance of the organisation as a whole.
“Additionally, resources freed up through the IMS are available for continued investment in manufacturing technology, product design and development as well as customer service.”
Mark Gouldstone, Sustainability Management Specialist at BSI commented: “By integrating their existing management systems Metsec can demonstrate to existing or potential customers, suppliers and stakeholders the holistic approach they take to managing business risks.
“The team at Metsec should be proud of this certification which will deliver tangible business such as improved business focus, less conflict between individual management systems, reduced duplication and bureaucracy as well as more effective and efficient audits both internally and externally.”
