The sustainable product life cycle
Sustainability
In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the sustainability and environmental impact of different products, it is necessary to take a holistic view of the respective product life cycles.
The end of life of different materials in particular is often neglected, but has a major impact on the overall picture. In principle, the life cycle of wood or concrete is shorter than that of steel. But what happens afterwards? Most waste wood is incinerated. Concrete is usually downcycled - it is reused, but with reduced quality.
Steel, on the other hand, is over 90 % recycled. So if, for example, the leova® vineyard poles have to be replaced at some point, the steel from the “old” ones can be processed and reused with virtually no loss of quality.
