voestalpine invited 400 young professionals to the Group Apprentice Day in Linz

Around 400 apprentices in their final year of training and their trainers from 40 sites in Austria, Germany and Switzerland took the opportunity to meet in person and get to know the Group headquarters in Linz at the voestalpine Group Apprentice Day on October 10. This year, for the first time after three years of virtual events, the event was once again held as a live event at voestalpine Stahlwelt. Worldwide, 1,400 young people are completing an apprenticeship at voestalpine, 940 in Austria alone. 400 apprentices started their apprenticeship at the steel and technology group at the beginning of the new training year.

This year's program was varied as usual: as a highlight, the entire voestalpine Management Board was on hand to answer questions from the apprentices in a round table discussion. Current topics such as the greentec steel step-by-step plan and the new special steel plant at the Kapfenberg site aroused particular interest among the young people. EU Youth Ambassador and watchado founder Ali Mahlodji gave a keynote speech to motivate the young professionals to take their future into their own hands. Between the program items, there was also an opportunity for in-depth discussions with colleagues from other locations.

voestalpine apprentices are among the best in their field

The next generation of skilled workers are prepared for the processes and procedures of a digitalized working world in the training centers with state-of-the-art technologies and dedicated trainers, many of whom started their careers as apprentices at voestalpine themselves. This includes future-oriented forms of learning such as working with virtual reality glasses or the use of robotics. Over 90,000 euros are invested in the training of each individual apprentice. In addition to the comprehensive teaching of specialist knowledge, apprentices are also offered numerous opportunities for personal and social development, such as language trips, excursions, project days and health promotion in the workplace. It is particularly important to voestalpine to give young people security and a perspective - with an offer of employment after the apprenticeship and long-term career prospects. The high quality of training is also reflected in numerous titles at professional championships. Just recently, Lukas F., a voestalpine apprentice, won the European vice-champion title at EuroSkills, the European vocational championships.
