When the starting signal for the 21st Linz Danube Marathon is given for around 11,000 runners on April 16, voestalpine will be there as a strong partner for the second time. Once again this year, the steel and technology group is providing the trophies made from metal powder using a 3D printing process for the winner of the marathon. The weekend of the Upper Austrian running highlight also marks the start of the first "voestalpine cares run", in which Group employees will be collecting kilometers for charitable causes until the end of June.

The partnership with the Linz Marathon underlines voestalpine's regional commitment and close ties to the Upper Austrian capital, which is home to the Steel Division headquarters and the largest single site of the globally active Group.

Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG

We are delighted to be a partner of the Linz Marathon again this year. Just like voestalpine, this event stands for top performance. Once again this year, we will be providing unique trophies made from our innovative 3D metal printing for the fastest runners.

Innovative winner trophies from 3D printing

The Group is regarded as one of the technology leaders in metallic 3D printing, in which the finest metal powder is melted and built up layer by layer to form highly complex parts. Its expertise ranges from the manufacture of the metal powder to design and production. 3D printed components are used in racing, aircraft construction, aerospace and the energy industry, among others. As in previous years, the other marathon trophies were produced by the young skilled workers at the modern training center at the Linz site. There, apprentices are prepared for the processes and procedures of a digitalized working world using state-of-the-art technologies and future-oriented forms of learning.

voestalpine cares run: employees run for a good cause

The voestalpine cares run, a new exercise initiative for all Group employees, will also be launched on the marathon weekend. Until June 30, they can collect digital points - so-called "cares" - by running, walking, hiking, and using a wheelchair with the help of an app, which will be converted into donations from voestalpine. In addition to the EUR 300,000 already donated for emergency aid for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria, the money will be used to support other international aid projects. "voestalpine assumes social responsibility at its sites. As part of the voestalpine cares run, we want to bundle our social commitment worldwide: Employees combine their sporting strengths to make the world a better place," says Eibensteiner.
