voestalpine Böhler Welding expands local business activities in India

voestalpine Böhler Welding, a leading and globally active company in the field of welding technology, has been gradually expanding its local value creation in India in recent years and invested around EUR 3 million in its Indian locations. Future projects, such as the addition of solid wire production to the product portfolio, are also intended to boost the “Make-in-India” share.

voestalpine Böhler Welding, a company of the Metal Engineering Division of voestalpine AG, sets new benchmarks worldwide for standard and special welding processes, and, as a full-range supplier of welding solutions, offers a unique portfolio of welding consumables, welding equipment, accessories, and services. In India, the company employed around 250 people at its three locations in Bhiwadi, Thane/Mumbai, and Delhi in the 2023/24 business year. In the last five years, the Group has invested more than EUR 3 million in expanding its production of welding consumables and in strengthening its application technology in order to be able to provide customers with even more comprehensive local service.

Customers include well-known Indian companies in the energy industry (thermal power), construction industry (e.g. crane and lifting technology, bridge construction), chemical processing (e.g. welding of pressure vessels, pipes), cement industry, steel plants, and transportation companies (e.g. wagon construction).

With more than 100 years of experience, voestalpine Böhler Welding, as part of the steel and technology group voestalpine, has significantly influenced the development of welding technology. As a full-service provider for welding solutions, the company guarantees its customers the perfect weld seam and also protects the health of welders with high-quality protective equipment, such as helmets with integrated fresh air systems.

voestalpine Böhler Welding has 34 locations in 22 countries worldwide and generated revenue of around EUR 800 million in the 2023/2024 business year with around 2,600 employees. Last year, the company acquired a majority stake in the premium welding wire manufacturer ITALFIL S.p.A., thereby expanding its product portfolio, above all in the partially and fully automated, high-quality welding technology sector.

At its 12 locations in India, the voestalpine Group generated revenue of EUR 184 million and employed around 900 people (FTE) in the business year 2023/24.

Metal Engineering Division

With its Railway Systems business unit, the Metal Engineering Division of the voestalpine Group is the global market leader for railway infrastructure systems and signaling technology. With its Industrial Systems business unit, the division is also the European market leader for quality wire and global provider of full welding solutions. And it supplies seamless tubes all over the world from the Kindberg location in Austria. Customers come from the railway infrastructure industry, the energy industry, the mechanical engineering, automotive and construction industries, as well as the renewable energy sector. As part of the greentec steel program, the Metal Engineering Division is already intensively working on and researching various innovative, climate-friendly technologies and production processes. In the business year 2023/24, the division generated about EUR 4.3 billion in revenue with its Railway Systems and Industrial Systems business units; over 46% of this revenue was generated outside Europe. The division recorded an operating profit (EBITDA) of EUR 606 million and employed around 14,700 people worldwide.
