19 June 2023 |

From September, voestalpine will be the first Austrian industrial company to offer round-the-clock childcare for children up to the age of 12 at its site in Linz. If required, employees who work shifts will be able to have their children looked after by their families at weekends, on public holidays and at night. The premises are located in the newly opened vivo Kinderwelt, which since May has provided space for up to 200 children - instead of the previous 90 - in the crèche and kindergarten.

voestalpine is responding to the increasing demand for childcare by doubling the number of childcare places at its Linz site to up to 200. Around 100 children are currently registered, and special consideration is given to the needs and work situation of parents when allocating places. The regular opening hours (06:30 - 17:00) can be extended in the toddlers' group and kindergarten from 06:00 - 19:00 if required.

Highly qualified and highly motivated employees are an important success factor for voestalpine. The compatibility of family and career also plays an increasingly important role. With the doubling of our childcare places and the innovative concept of round-the-clock family childcare, we are creating an attractive offer for parents and children.

vivo Kinderwelt PLUS with night, weekend and public holiday operation

voestalpine is responding to the increasing demand for individual and flexible childcare hours with the launch of 24-hour childcare in September. The service is primarily aimed at employees where both parents work shifts, as well as those with extended working hours, such as those in voestalpine's occupational medicine department or fire department. Parents can register their need for overnight stays and for care during early or late shifts, at weekends or on public holidays in advance according to their work schedules. A bedtime is provided for children whose parents have worked a night shift; they are looked after until the early afternoon. On non-shift days, the children stay at home with their families. The family-style childcare service will initially be available for eight children and can be expanded.

Sustainable construction

voestalpine is focusing on sustainability at its new location in Schnopfhagenstraße in Linz. The vivo Kinderwelt was built using solid brick construction. The regional building materials are used to store heat and cold and create a pleasant indoor climate. A photovoltaic system was installed on the roof, which supplies renewable energy for the entire building. The rest of the roof was greened. Access to nature is a top priority: Outside, the children have 5,000 square meters of green space at their disposal with plenty of room to play, climb and slide, while numerous trees provide natural shade.

Awarded the MINT seal of approval

vivo Kinderwelt has been awarded the MINT Seal of Approval 2023-2026 - a nationwide quality certificate for innovative learning in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology with diverse access for girls and boys. This makes voestalpine one of only five companies in Upper Austria to have been awarded the MINT seal of approval.
