voestalpine in talks about the sale of the steel trading group

22 November 2006 |

The Management Board of the listed voestalpine AG already decided at the beginning of the current business year 2006/07 to sell the Group's steel trading group, as this division no longer performs a strategic sales function for the voestalpine Group.

  • Exclusive negotiations with Polish Zlomrex Group.
  • The aim is to conclude the contract this year.

At the beginning of the current business year 2006/07, the Management Board of the listed voestalpine AG decided to sell the Group's steel trading group, as this division no longer fulfills a strategic sales function for the voestalpine Group. In the course of the sales process, which was handled by an investment bank, several interested parties submitted offers for the purchase of the group. On the basis of these offers, exclusive sales negotiations were finally held with the Polish company Zlomrex as the best bidder. The aim is to conclude a purchase agreement before the end of 2006.

Zlomrex is a company operating primarily in Poland, which has steel production capacities of 650,000 tons and is also active in steel and raw materials trading. The expected turnover of the Zlomrex Group in 2006 is around EUR 500 million. The voestalpine steel trading division would represent a strategically sensible addition for Zlomrex as a sales channel in Austria and in the Central and Eastern European countries in which the steel trading group has branches.

The steel trading division can continue to pursue its strategic goals in its current structure and will receive additional sales functions for the new owner.
