greentec steel Edition
The greentec steel program is our ambitious phased plan for the long-term decarbonization of steelmaking. In a first step, we now also offer all flat steel products manufactured by our Linz-based Steel Division in a CO2-reduced version (greentec steel Edition). They include electrical steel, which is used in wind turbines, and high-tensile steels for lightweight automotive construction. As a result, we can offer a high-quality and transparent solution for all customers looking for an instantly recognizable, traceable and, above all, significant reduction in their carbon footprint.
We plan to reduce carbon emissions by adjusting the production process, such as by partially replacing coke with reducing agents containing hydrogen. The emissions saved are then recorded and collected as CO2 credits in a CO2 balance. The CO₂ savings achieved in the production process and the current status of the carbon footprint account are verified externally. The resulting reduced carbon footprint is confirmed to customers in a declaration.
