CCUS begins with the capture of carbon dioxide, intercepting emissions before they are released into the atmosphere. The captured CO2 is then compressed to a high pressure level for transport (gaseous or liquid) and either securely stored in deep geological formations underground or processed for further use. Captured carbon can, for instance, be combined with green hydrogen to produce climate-neutral fuels such as methane or methanol. Alternatively, it can be transported to industrial sectors and utilized in circular economy applications, such as the production of artificial fibers for clothing or fertilizers.
