The leading edge we have in research and development evolves from our guiding principle to focus on the challenging products our customers need. Our staff members work on these tasks in close cooperation with our customers, suppliers, universities and other world-class research institutions to come up with the optimal innovative solutions.
We view working together in such a way as the key to our success. We channel, track and put the most diverse ideas into effect with an innovation system that is individually tailored to the customer. This is what forms the basis of our forward-looking solutions.

voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace customers are able to rely on sophisticated simulations and a one-of-a-kind optimization in each step of the forging process. This allows us to meet the demands of our customers with precise design and forging processes, in strict compliance with their specifications and quality requirements.
We only put the most modern technology and software systems to use. They are compatible with all of the conventional CAD systems and data exchange interfaces, thus meeting customer requirements right from the start.
We strive to embody our innovation processes together with our staff, our customers, our suppliers, universities and other world-class institutions. This is how we are able to guarantee optimal forging, heat treatment and machining processes for existing and future components.
For this we even use completely new materials – even purer, even harder, even stronger. They will certainly play an important role in our technological world of tomorrow. Some of these materials have already successfully established themselves on the market; others are still being developed and tested in the labs at voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace.
Innovation has a long tradition at voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace and has always been a vital part of our strategic company focus. We develop new models and post-processing tools for the finite element analysis of our thermo-mechanical manufacturing processes.
This allows us to make a preliminary assessment of the microstructure, residual stress and the mechanical properties. The result is attaining customized component properties while at the same time reducing production costs. And that means our customers benefit as well.
Project: Development of AM for Aerospace Components (DAMAsC)
In the DAMAsC project, a WAAM process for critical (Class1) Ti-6Al-4V aerospace structural parts will be developed for the first time. In order to reduce the subsequent cost- and time-intensive experimental development for each new structural part, a hybrid simulation approach for the process design will be developed. This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). For more information regarding ERDF visit www.efre.gv.at.
